How Many Generations?

Hello cousins, 2nd cousins....family members. Because I keep asking Jodi where everyone fits into the family, I'll start there. My Grandpa was James Newton (Jim) Ladd, married to Earnestine, who had Debbey, Sandi, Jim, and Jodi. I'm Debbey's oldest, and I have 2 younger sisters, Mandi and Teddi who are both married and Mandi has 2 boys, Night (10) and Seth (7). Teddi has 6 kids, Haillie (12) Hollie (11) Haven (6) Harley (5) Hazel (4) and Havanna (2). I have 3 step- children (they are 28, 25, 21) and 2 step grandchildren (ages 5 and 1). I run the Arkansas Optometric Association and my husband, Dennis, runs the Arkansas Beverage Association (soft drinks, not liquor).
I'm ready to see everyone this fall. I have lots of "remember whens" from part of the family - although mostly I don't remember "when" --I was just told about it - like Dave and Donna and Cathi babysitting me when I was a baby - and squirted me in the face with the bottle to make me laugh. Ahh, good times. Maybe by the time we all get together in September, Aunt Sandi will tell the story of what she and cousins Cathi and Donna were doing on the night I was born.

From Donna

Well, I for one am so excited for this reunion. We have such a wonderful family. And so diverse. We have the "good" (we know who we are), the "bad" (ya'll know who you are) and the "ugly" (they need to show up too). This is really a great way for us all to revitalize all of our relationships. I'm excited to see cousins I haven't seen in ages, as well as those I've just seen. Do you think Arkansas is up for this? I hope so!

A line from Audrey

Hi all you darling little cousins. I think I am the now Matriarch of this crazy mixed up Ladd family. I have come full circle, I left my native Arkansas as a very Young girl and returned here for my retirement. We (my husband Bob) hereafter referred to as the Mr. have been in wedded bliss for 23 years (ugh) and have lived 10 of those years in Hot Springs Village, Ark and 7 years in Jonesboro. I love it here now, they don't pick cotton anymore they have a machine that does that for them.
Your Aunt Earnie and I have been best friends forever and she lives just down the road in Bay, Ar . We do a lot of shopping together, and eating at the IHOP. My only daughter lives here in Jonesboro and she is my Rock. And Jodi ,you are certainly my pebble and so much more, I dearly love your girls, Brennah at 17 years old and Kelsea at 13.
I really don't think you all want or need to know of all my illnesses and aches and pains so I will not bore you with them.

The Ladd homestead in Missouri

Evona mentioned seeing the Ladd homestead in Missouri. I have more information but from my recollection Ransom's home became Sadlers Chapel. It has been added onto over the years but there is still remnants of his original home. The people of the church are familar with Ransom's story and welcome all Ladd's to visit the Chapel and see all of the details. It is outside of Dexter Missouri. It will take me a while to dig in my notes but somewhere I have the name of the road. It is not far from the Sadler Cemetary where Ransom Ladd, Jane Caroline Ladd, and Anna Eve Norman Ladd are buried. There are other relatives of the Normans and Gaines buried there. Jane Caroline was originally a Gaines and after Ransome passed away in 1865 she eventually married a Cato (also Cherokee by the way).

Well, I'm getting excited about all of this and ready to dig out all of my binders and stuff and see what I can pull together.

Most of my input has been on Family Tree Maker. Anyone who has that software is welcome to a copy of my database. I can burn it to CD and mail it.

take care,

Sarah

Hey there

Well hi Jodi. Thank you so much for trying to wrangle all of us together in one spot. I really want to meet the rest of the family too!!! I guess (who knows) I am Harold Gaylon's (Gabby) oldest daughter. I met Cory back in 95 when he and Gaylon came to Michigan. I have talked with Aint Aud and Aunt Shirley on the phone and we send emails. I really hope this can be pulled off. I want to see who else I resemble!!! Please feel free to email me. Have a happy Holiday. Love Gail Shailee

From Sarah

Thank you Jodi for setting this up! I am so excited to see if we can finally pull off a reunion. I will definately commit to attending if we are successful. So, now for an introduction.

Well, this might get complicated. Okay, I'm Sarah Williamson, the oldest sibling of my line. I am originally a Ladd. My father is Harold Gaylon Ladd and my mother is Margaret Williamson. I won't go into more detail than that unless someone asks. Please feel free to email me offline if you wish. I used to keep in touch fairly well for quite a few years and then I sort of dropped out of sight for a while. But I am back at it and very intersted in our family history again and seeing if we can tie this family together.

I live in Ventura, California which is an absolutely wonderful place to live. I moved here in 1994. I have two beautiful children, Kristen is 12 and Beau is 8. They are awesome! They live in Oregon. I work for a law firm and enjoy that very much. I am the office manager. I start school in January for my Paralegal certificate. I am very excited about that. It's been over 20 years since I've gone to college so this will be interesting. I am currently single but starting to date again. It seems like I attract old fat drunks for some reason! Why can't I attract the young drunks??? Just kidding. Most of the guys my age have big beer bellies and that is a turn off.

I've compiled a ton of information on our family. I have one line that goes back 2500 years. It is on the Gaines side. I still have a lot of input to get it all in my software but will get it done one day. I think my database now has over 2000 Ladd and other relatives in it. I'm sure there must be a book to be written as we have some very interesting ancestors. Perhaps we could put a team on that!

I can't wait to here from you all!

Cory Ladd

Cory Ladd posted a comment that I want to make sure everyone gets to see....

Well hello fellow Ladd cousins! This is Cory, Gabby's son -- not to be confused with the pretty one! I typically speak to Aunt Shirley, around this time of year, and she told me about the reunion. I received a very pleasant surprise today -- an email from cousin Jodi! That absolutely made my day! It's been SOOO long since I've seen or spoken to most of y'all (trying to fit in with you guys!).

I live sort of in the Chicago area -- really it's a suburb about 45 minutes west. I have been married for 16 years and have a 13 year old son named Dylan. I'm a "youngster" like Jodi and won't be 40 until April Fools Day! In breaking with Ladd tradition, Lisa, my wife, is the only one I've ever had, and we've only done it once! : )

Anyway, my son doesn't believe I have ANY relatives that aren't from Hawaii (that's where my mom's from, for those that didn't know!). He's really only seen my dad a couple of times, and that was when he was 2 or 3. We're really excited to see / meet my family!

If I can figure it out, I'll upload some pictures of my family. After reading all the "lip" comments, I apparently got the entire Ladd family allotment!

I hope to hear from you soon!

Love,

Cory Ladd
