Evona mentioned seeing the Ladd homestead in Missouri. I have more information but from my recollection Ransom's home became Sadlers Chapel. It has been added onto over the years but there is still remnants of his original home. The people of the church are familar with Ransom's story and welcome all Ladd's to visit the Chapel and see all of the details. It is outside of Dexter Missouri. It will take me a while to dig in my notes but somewhere I have the name of the road. It is not far from the Sadler Cemetary where Ransom Ladd, Jane Caroline Ladd, and Anna Eve Norman Ladd are buried. There are other relatives of the Normans and Gaines buried there. Jane Caroline was originally a Gaines and after Ransome passed away in 1865 she eventually married a Cato (also Cherokee by the way).
Well, I'm getting excited about all of this and ready to dig out all of my binders and stuff and see what I can pull together.
Most of my input has been on Family Tree Maker. Anyone who has that software is welcome to a copy of my database. I can burn it to CD and mail it.
take care,
Sarah

yep...you still have a memory. I went there with you. I do remember a house down the road from the cemetary, but for some reason we didn't go down there. I think it was sometime around 1992, and I think I remember someone saying that the land remained in the Ladd family until the recent owner....but I don't remember when it was sold out of the family. Guess you will have to dig. Man we should take a caravan out to the cemetary in Werth (near Hardy). What a trip that was! I'm surprised we got out of those hills alive! I went back twice after you and I went there. Even took Jodi for a little trip when you had me looking for Asa's wife's grave.."Aimee". I THINK that is how here name was spelled. One of the funniest things was that her twin sister was named "Namie". I just think it would be funny to say, "Hi, my name is Naimie". ....maybe it's just me, but that's just odd! And by the way, you put Jodi and I on a goose chase looking for State Line Cemetary. She can tell that story (she tells it much better than I do). We did have a run in from a few men that got loose from "Deliverence", but we were able to get away before we heard any pigs squeal! Another cousin was with us and she lives in that area. After we left, she says...in a very slow southern accent...."ooohhh yeahhhhh, I fergot to warn ya....these mountain men git kinda lonely up here....they don't see many women". .....and I won't even go into the episode of running from the cows. I'll save it for the reunion!
Love, Sandi
Okay, you're a weirdo! Well at least a handy Sandi. ewwwwww.
I remember there was a mobile home sitting on the land that Asa and Aimee owned (I think 20 acres) and it was before you went up the hill toward the cemetary that was on the right side of the road.
Across the road was the land that Ransom owned. He had 80 acres, as I recall, and it was sold to the "Hill" family soon after he died in 1865 and it has remained in the Hill family's name ever since and has not been divided, at least as of the time that you and I went there. I think it would be cool if we could walk around there a bit. The Sadler Church should be very close by and I know that they are very welcoming of Ladd decendants. I've always wanted to attend a sermon there.
I do remember how spooky it was driving around back in the swampy lands where the roads have no names, only numbers. Remember that boot sticking out of the mud on that one road? I remember when I started sining that deliverance song that I got smacked! Yep, Sandi has no sense of humor when she is skeered!
Sandeee...what are you thinking??!! Take a caravan out there me arse! No way am I going back and any relatives that are reading this take note! Sandi made me go with her on this adventure. Let me just say this: our journey began at the home of my cousin on my mom's side and we couldn't leave on our search for the cemetery until she got the strangers out of the bathtub in her front yard--I'm not making that up! It all ended, so help me, high-stepping through a pasture while being chased by cows. Who knew cows would chase people??? I'm not to proud to tell you all that while my knees were pumping into my chest I was shouting..."I'm NEVER COMING BACK SANDI NEVER!!!"
...and Sarah, had I known the details you just gave us I would have probably never gone in the first place.
Yes...Jodi is telling the truth. People were in her bath tub which was in her front yard! And as for Jodi being "skeered"...let me tell you, there's nothing funnier! You won't get scared if she is with you cuz you will be too busy laughing at her! We had to climb a fence to get into the cow pasture and as Jodi was climbing over she said, "Why do I get the feeling I'm with Lucy and Ethel"!! Too funnnee! Needless to say, Jodi was the first one OVER the fence getting out of there, and I swear, she did it in one big jump ....without hesitation! LOL! Wish we had it on tape! Oh....and Sarah forgot the part when we got stuck on the metal rollers on a dead end road IN a pasture. Guess what else? I took Mom and Aunt Tressie (Tressie who was Grandpa Asa Ladd's sister) back up there too. We got stuck in mud AGAIN. I tried so hard to get out that I ended up with mud up to the car doors. Had to stop and ask Darrell's other brother Darrell to pull us out. It wasn't pretty....ask my Mom!!! Anyone want to take a trip with moi?????
Okay, can I ask the obvious question? Why does Jodi have a bathtub in the front yard? Inquiring minds need to know!
Ohh Lawd! Re-read! Re-read! It was NOT myyyy yard, it was my cousin's yard (on Mom's side).
