did anyone notice, in the photos that Sarah posted showing a young Margaret & Gabby.... the German "HALT" sign in the background... with bullet holes
some of my earliest memories are of going to school in Nuremburg.... I remember playing with these huge building blocks... getting sent to school on Holloween in my "costume" dressed up as a cowboy with my pants on backwards.... talk about a difficult time going to the bathroom!
I remember looking out the school window and seeing a huge military type parade ... to this day I wonder if it was honoring JFK after he was shot and killed
And sledding down some awesome hills, Gail playing at the bottom of a hill one time and taking a sled to the forehead, dang she aint been right since! (j/k as you know Sis :-) )
Our parents rented a little house, the neighbors (landlords) had a teenage son that used to send me to the store to buy him beer, I'd get to buy myself a piece of candy in exchange for running the errand, as a 5 yr. old!
back to work for me....
someone take over!
love,
Orrin

That's all interesting-but why were your pants on backwards? You don't do that anymore do you?
Hey! it wasnt my idea!
As for now-a-days, only on Friday nights ... after a couple tooooo many. That way my butt dont look so big.
How old were you when you left Germany? I really didn't realize you all lived there. That's pretty interesting.
Sarah and I were born there, then came back to the states a year later and Gail was born stateside
When Mom remarried, we ended up back in Germany and Sarah & I started school there. we were back in Jonesboro in time for me to go to first grade
2nd grade in Ann Arbor, MI then to Midland for growin up. Yeah, I did eventually grow up, kinda sorta
That's right. Gail was born on an Army base in Baltimore, Maryland.
We went to school on an army base near Landshut, Germany. We took the bus which was like an hour long ride. I will always remember the day that JFK got shot because my teacher came in crying and told us we were going home. The busses took us home and later we went to a drive-in theater on the base and watched a newsreel.
After we came back the second time we were in Jonesboro and went to school at North School. I remember when we left Jonesboro for Michigan I think I was maybe 9 years old. There were two cars, my mom drove one and my step-dad drove the other. I got to sit in the front seat with my mom and hold the map. I remember a Johnny Cash song came on the radio and I asked my mom if that was daddy.
Interesting! Just a little more insight to what went on all these years!
I remember the babysitter. His name was Eddie. I remember he would have a girlfriend over also. And I remember him riding a bicycle off of a dock into the lake (on purpose).
Also, the landlady had a boy who was playing in the yard. I think he was a bit on the roudy side. Anyway, he had pieces of roofing shingles and would fling them like a frisbee. Well, one of them hit me in the forhead and cut me. I went crying to my mom. Meanwhile, my stepdad takes Orrin over to their house. Keep in mind that there was a huge language problem. Their family was in the living room and my stepdad told Orrin to go over and bunch the kid in the nose. Like a dutiful son Orrin did exactly that and we all walked away. I think that early experience shaped his personality because as we grew up if someone said they wanted to fight, Orrin was like, "Okay let's go". Between you and me, I think he sorta liked it.
I told you I was so misunderstood! I was just doin what I was told to do! sheesh
