My cross county trip

Hi everyone,

I thought I would share my trip experience as I headed east this summer for the reunion. It was an amazing experience to say the least and a major highlight of course was getting to go to the Ladd Reunion.

My roommate, Vicki, her boyfreind, Dan, and I left Ventura California on June 20th for the long trip. In order to avoid the violent rainstorms in the midwest we decided to go straight north and skip it all. First we went to Las Vegas for a few days and then continued north to Yellowstone Park. From there we went west across South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin where we took the ferry to cross Lake Michigan to Michigan. Dan is a mechanic in the Navy so he kept our motorcycles running. He had a family reunion in Michigan over the 4th of July.

As soon as I got to Michigan, Orrin, Gail and I headed to Arkansas. Now when I said "as soon as I got there" I mean literally. I arrived at 5:00 am in Orrins driveway and we left about 6:30 am for the trip south. It was the first roadtrip that Orrin, Gail and I ever took together, just the three of us.

After the reunion I spent a week with my mom before heading west for California. We got back home of July 19th. Almost exactly one month and 5,000 miles later. It is a trip that I will never forget and enjoyed thoroughly. The reunion of course was a great highlight for me and 2008. I sincerely hope that we continue to do this each year.

Here is a link to my online photo album of the pictures I took, mostly from the motorcycle, from start to finish.

The pics were beautiful. I can't even imagine a month long vacation! Glad you enjoyed every minute. Mostly I'm glad you, Orrin & Gail got to take a trip together. That's real bonding! ....at least it was when Gail would wake up! LOL! And yeah, I can attest to Orrin and "being on time". I would have bet money he would not have gotten you and Gail out the door on time (when you all were leaving)..but he pulled 10 minutes before his pre-determined departure time, and like Sgt. Carter, had you gals out the door and on the road right on the dot!! I was pretty amazed with that.

We haven't heard from Gail, have you? I wonder how her doctor appt. went about her foot. ???

So glad you got to make it. I know it's a l o n g trip, but it wouldn't have been the same without you. I have no idea how you rode a bike that many miles.

Are you back to school yet? Keep us up-dated on what's going on!
Love, Sandi

I really enjoyed the photo album Sarah! Makes me wanna head out for a bike ride. Unfortunately, it has a flat tire, the clothes pin broke so I need a new one to hold that playing card in place.

Send me an update or call when you can to let me know how that butt head is making out?

Take care
Love,
O

I've been engrossed in school. Because of the trip I missed the first 3-4 weeks of my semester. My first day back to school was on a Saturday. So, I walked into my Tort class and the teacher said, "well, you picked a great day to show up, today is the midterm." Well, I was taken off guard by that one for sure. It was an open book test and I hadn't even been able to buy my text book. Jeez! So, the teacher said the midterm was open book exam but we could not use the table of contents nor the index. He then said I could borrow his book for the exam. I thanked him and sat the book aside. After I took the exam I had another hour of time left so I just started at the front of the book and flipped through the pages. Everyone now and then I would think, "oh that was just on this test and sure enough I got it wrong." From the book I was able to change about ten of my answers and pulled off an "A" on the midterm. My teacher and the rest of the class was really impressed. So I guess it pays off having an attorney for a roommate afterall!

I haven't talked to Gail lately so I don't know what's going on there.

Orrin, I'll call you on the weekend and fill you in on butt-head.

I can't wait for the next reunion, but I think I'll fly next time! We are planning our next bike trip though. I think it will just be to Yosemite. Someday though we plan to take a motorcycle trip down to South America. That will be a blast! Hola!
