Reunion

Hi Everyone!

I'm new here, so I hope I did this right! I'm Diane, one of Gabby's daughters. I think this is an awesome thing you've done Jodi, it's a shame that too many of us have lost touch!

I live in a suburb of Chicago with my husband Tim. We have five kids and an adorable 2 year old granddaughter, Brooklynn! Chrissy is 24, Andrea is 22, Stephanie is 16, Zak is almost 13 and Josh is 11. I'll try to upload some pictures later.

We're going to try to make it to the reunion in July! I would love to see everyone!

Love,
Diane

Doing Genealogical research

I thought I would post some internet sources for those who might like to do family history research. A special note to Ladd males. There is a Ladd DNA project that is tracking the history of all Ladd's from all origins. It's interesting to note that there are very distinct origins of several Ladd roots. They are not all related, therefore the name was adopted, or assigned through various cultures. Currently on the Ladd DNA site I think there are 7 distinct family lines that are not related to each other. One of those lines is Ransom Ladd's line that shows a very different DNA code than the others. The genetic markers are compared which demonstrates how closely related someone is to another.

This test is only for males because they carry the Y chromosome. Females are XX and males are XY. I think I am the only one so far from the Ransom line that has done the test. I submitted the results under my old name so as not to confuse people. I am XXY mosaic chromosome pattern (Intersexed) so the test showed positive results. I would like to encourage you to do this test which will help immensely with the project. It is not expensive and the swab is very easy to do inside the cheek.

Okay, science class is over. Here are some very useful links for you history buffs.

Stories on my family

Story #1. When I was 7, I came home from school and saw my dad working. I asked him why he didn't have work off that day. He wondered what I was talking about. I said we celebrated his holiday today at school. He asked what holiday. It was Martin Luther King Jr. Day. He said that he wasn't black. I said "sure you are!". He said "if I am black, then so are you". I replied to him saying "no, I am Italian (my mom)". Then I got the speech about him being Hawaiian.

Story #2. We had just moved in to our new house. We got invited down the street so my parents could drink with them. My mom brought a cake over. At the end, we had taken the leftover cake home. On the way down the stairs of their deck, my mom (drunk) tripped on the last step with the cake in her hand. She fell face first straight into the cake. It was a great first impression on our new neighbors.

Photos

Thank you to everybody who is uploading photos to the Photobucket account. It is really cool seeing who everybody is. The other web site is where we will have all of the information on the reunion such as hotels, and locations.

Oh where or where have Vicki, Mandie, Corey, & Michael gone???

Do you guys have some "under 40" blog started somewhere else? If ya do, those of us under 40 want in! And you've gotta tell us before April or one of us is out of the club (it's REALLY not important which one it is)!

Or did the "Andy Griffith Show" / "Gomer Pyle" references scare you away??? Are ya worried there may be a few flatulent / floater stories about you that you don't want published?? I have it on good authority that some folks will make stuff up if you're not on here to defend yourself.....I'm just saying......

Jump on in!

Happy Birthday Aunt Aud!!!!!!!!!

Aunt Aud,

Happy Birtday to my favorite gal pal! I just don't know what I'd do without your help, guidance, laughter and of course your direction in all things pop culture.

Here's hoping your day is everybit as wonderful as you are.

We love you soooooo much!!!!

Jodi, Brent, Brennah and Kelsea
(and Irving because you're the only person who likes that dog)

Happy Birthday Aint Aud!!!

Happy Birthday Aint Aud!

Love and hugs to you as you celebrate your birthday with all of those that love you.

I do hope that we can make it down over the 4th of July, and give you the hug & kiss in person.

top this weekend!

Top this weekend! Okay, it's no secret, I told yaw I was no good at sports or anything related to it. But listen to my weekend....try to top it. Sophie, my grand daughter had a ball game 10 am Saturday, I woke up at 9:15 and was in a dead rush to get there. Rushing with my make up, (yeah, I wear a SMALL amount of make up), anyway, I smeared mascara all down my eye to my cheek. I grab a Qtip to wipe it off, and stab myself in the eye with the Qtip. Within minutes, I got this blood red spot in my eye that was slowly but surely spreading itself all over the white of my eye. But, I DID get to the game on time. Thank God I happened to glance in the mirror just before going in....only to discover I had more lipstick on my chin than on my lips. Took care of that.

***STORY CONTINUED IN COMMENTS...

HEY YOOOUUU GUUUUUYS!

Speaking of missing people Donna and Dave where are your stories? Has anyone heard from Jerry or Evonna? I e-mailed Jerry and asked him to get on the blog but haven't heard back from him yet, hope he hasn't been reading it and we scared him off. I know Mom (A. Earnie) reads everything but she hasn't posted yet. Well if they don't jump in we'll talk for them. Did you know when Donna was younger she bought a brand new Volkswagon,it was yellow with that rolls royce front end. The problem was she couldn't drive stick. I think she drove everywhere in second gear. Taking off from red lights was always a trip. That thing would rev up and jerk and Donna would just giggle. What happened to that car Donna?

Breaking into the Ladd Family

Hi Everyone,

I'm Cloud Griffin, husband of the lovely Debbey. just wanted to take a moment and share some of my memories of my short time relationship with the Ladd family.

Having been part of these wonderful people for over 10 yrs now I have been witness to more than a few funny stories. Let us start with one about me to begin with.

On one of my first vists to Debbey's Mom's house "Earnie's" I walked in to the most food i have ever seen at one time! i thought "my God, how many people are coming?" I later learned that Earnie can't make a sandwich without two loaves of bread and half a cow.

I was met with open arms! not being used to this i kept my hand on my wallet, but soon learned their openess was real, along with their love.

i really wanted to be a part of this family and I knew what i had to do. Kids, that's the ticket!
i went to my car and retreived a kite, i really like kids!. No sooner than i had the kite up, by the way there was no wind that day, i noticed that everybody was outside watching me run around the yard trying to get the kite up far enough that by small chance some mystic wind would take hold and soar it upward. All the kids were running with me as I ran backwards pulling the kite string as fast as I could I failed to notice Earnie's birdbath behind me! Yes, picture a six foot 280 pound full grown man falling backwards onto a plastic birdbath! it wasn't pretty, as i lay atop the birdbath i glance toward my new family. And as the plastic bird bath slowly collasped beneath me I looked at them knowing the good people they were would be running to my aid i was taken back a bit when what i actually saw were them laughing there ass's off. I knew I was accepted!

Now a quick short story about one of my favorite sister-in-laws. They are all my favorite but this one is on Sandi.

Her work brought her to Memphis for a few months and we were so glad she stayed with us. She was a joy and i really looked forward to our deep conversations at night concerning the important issues of the world!

Sandi was always able to support any argument she had with a profound "People Say"

I once asked Sandy who these people were and she replied to with "You Know, Those People"

Hard to argue a point like that! But I had needed a new recliner for a long long time. being the intellegent shopper I am, more on this later, i search everywhere in Memphis for the perfect recliner for a big guy like myself. After a couple of months i had found it! A beautiful LazyBoy Big Guy recliner, made just for me. after a week they delivered it and set it up.

Sandi came in from work not long after and i explained my only rule of the house.

DO NOT SIT IN CLOUD'S CHAIR!

so after a nice dinner and a few hours of conversation and TV, i decided to go to bed. normally Sandi retires earlier than me but maybe she was on a coffee high or something so i thought little about it.

As I cross the living room low and behold if Sandi didn't jump up and sit in MY chair and release the longest, loudest most reviberating lumber jack fart you have ever heard in your life!!

i don't believe i have ever fully recovered from this because even today knowing she is miles away i can sometimes still hear the thundering noise of that night,

that's all for now, i do enjoy reading everyone's stories

Cloud

Why do I have to have a title: Stuff

Ok, I can't get Asa's vid on youtube, its too big, and I can't cut it down so I put a couple of pics on the laddreunion pic page. And ask Sandi about getting hit in the head with a cup last night, she said something about everyone knows she can't catch!lol that is other stories. One true one is that we use to bath together and she crapped in the tub, yea Sandi it was you, the only one that did not get out of the tub. I don't have that many stories on Debbie, she was too sneaky, and didn't tell on herself, and older, much, much older than Sandi and I. Then there is Jodi, but she is too serious to make fun of, she would be wondering what we really meant. But hey, there is always Sandi, she is funny, and I will say a lot of things about her, but she is really smart, and creative and much more fun to be around. So anyhoo, Sara there are some bigger pic's, and if you see my vid on youtube.com 2ndchanceband, just remember that video makes you look 30 pounds heavier. And Sandi the dog is the dog you had to give back to it's owners!

Happy Birthday Aunt Aud from Donna

Happy Birthday Auntie (Mom #2), I hope your day is fabulous. I'll be thinking of you, wishing you the best.
I haven't been on in a while 'cause I forgot my password. But I'm good now. You didn't tell me that part of the aging process. I'm a thinkin' there's lots you neglected to mention. Huh? Well, I'll learn as I go. At least Sandi will always be older than me.
Love ya
Donna

Happy Birthday Aunt Aud from Dave

Hi Aunt Aud,
Have the best birthday ever! And BBBBe Bad to the BBBBone!
Love you most
Dave

Go Hillary 2008
Hey are we going to be able to go to the RoundUp during the reunion! Huh Sandi Huh?

Aint Aud

Happy Birthday Ainy Aud, I wanted to tell you how very special you are to me. A few years ago, I didn't know one single person on the Ladd side of the family. Sarah had done so much research to locate our family and she found you,( along with so many others). You opened your arms and heart to all of us without hesitation, without even knowing us. I have to tell you, that very moment meant so much to me. I finally actually belonged somewhere. You are a very very special and loving woman and I am proud to call my Family. Love you Aint Aud, I will see you soon. Gail Shailee

James Newton Ladd, Bay Police Chief

My Dad, James Newton Ladd, was the police chief in Bay. He had some really funny stories to tell, and I may not do them justice, but just to let you know what life was in Bay in the early 70’s when Dad wore a blue uniform…..he got domestic calls all hours of the night. One time he was called out and some guy was just laying in the floor with a bullet in his leg.---he made his wife angry, and she just wanted to make him shut up! But one of the funniest stories he told was when he went out on a call, walked up to the house, knocked on the door…and I promise….this is the truth, a MONKEY opened the door and let him in! Wish I could have seen his face on that call! Dad had some really good stories. In fact that is what Dad and Uncle Pete are famous for. They both remembered so much about people, and the way they told the stories were soooo funny! I sure wish we would have got this together years ago. It would have been so neat to listen to those stories again, no matter how many times I have heard them.

Gabbey???

Has anyone heard if Gaylon (Gabbey) is coming to this reunion, or if he is even intersted in coming to it? I was just wondering, I have only seen him once since I was 2 that why I was asking, honestly I don't know if I remember what he looks like. I am actually looking forward to meeting the rest of the family alot more because all of you will stay in my life I am sure. Gail Shailee

Hello to all

I'm just trying to catch up on the writing already on the blog. Orrin, I remember seeing you all when you were moving out of a house in Jonesboro I think, but have always wondered what you were doing. Cory, you were young the last time I saw you. Your dad use to talk about you a lot, sorry that he did not keep up with you both, his loss I'm sure. Most of all I'm glad to see that you all are doing well. One last thing before I go, as for my sisters, Jodi is too serious, Deb pulls too many jokes, and Sandi, well lets just say she was hungry and exposed to peeling lead paint. I will try to touch base with everyone soon. As I said time is a problem for me. I'm in my last semester of grad school, my son plays basketball at least two nights a week, church on Wed, and a couple of board meeting just for good measure. So I will be back when I get a chance.
Bless you all,
Jim

Welcome Jim!

Heyyy Big Brother! I'm so happy to see you. I know how busy your schedule is, but you have so much wit and wisdom to share, please take some time to write when you can.

You're on You Tube??? OK I have to admit that shocked me, but Brennah got out the smelling salts and brought me around. I watched the video, very nicely done. Did you write that song?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Tons of love,
Jodi

Since we don't seem to have a date locked in stone, I was wondering....

Would it be possible to have the reunion over the 4th of July weekend, instead of Labor Day? Aside from purely selfish reasons, the kids will be out of school -- which might allow for a day or two extra for some. Plus we'd get to see everyone a bit earlier!

My family will make September work but it would be a little easier for us in July. If that screws everything up, feel free to tell me to shut the hell up and delete this post! :)

Fill in the branch

okay....just so we don't have any mistakes, someone from each family branch needs to fill in all the info. I'll go first , but I'll do it in a comment with my Mom and Dad's name first, okay? Ready to play? Thanks! Go to the "comments" and make sure your sibling spelled your name correctly! Sarah, you can use this to fill in the "newest" generation that you may not have.

Thanks Yaw!

A little hint for navigating this blog

I suspect that some people may not know about this neat little feature of this blog. Since we are getting a lot of posts as well as a LOT of comments (Ladd's are never short of words!) it can get a bit unwieldy to figure out if you've read all of the comments or not, especially if the posts are older and no longer showing up on the first screen.

Well there is a way to "subscribe" to the comments of any particular post. Whether you leave a comment or not does not matter. You just click on the links to view the comments (even if it is at zero). Look below the box where you type the comment and you will see a little box next to the words "Email follow-up comments to..." and your email address will be listed below. If you check this little box then all follow up comments will automatically come to your email inbox. This saves a lot of time figuring out if you've read everything or not. Considering how nosy Ladd's can be it is absolutely vital to read all comments. Additionally, you just may want to defend yourself from the onslaught of stories that just might be about you!

I would also like to encourage everyone to post a little bio of yourself in your profile so that we all knows who belongs to who.

Welcome Michael!

Hey Michael,
I'm so glad to see that you posted your profile! I loved the book Atlas Shrugged too, I'm trying to get Brennah to read The Fountainhead (I think Howard Roark is one of the greatest literary characters ever). I love Jimi Hendrix too. If your schedule allows, I know everyone would love to hear from ya again.
Take care and welcome to the blog!

Conan Meriadoc

Okay, I understand I have to substantiate my research. As I mentioned our Conan is not to be confused with the cartoon character nor the movie character played by Arnold. Our ancestor was Conan Meriadoc. He was called the barbarian king I believe due to his love of fighting wars. That is likely coined by modern day historians rather than a nickname he had during his time. He led the armies for decades and fought several other armies. You can find a fair bit about him on Google. Here is another snippet on him:

New "story time"

Here's one more about Gabbey...then I'll zoom in on someone else! This is just a hand me down story, but I've heard it several times from my Dad: (it's short...but try to get the visual on this)

Gabbey was probably around 5 or 6, and was out in the pig pen. All of a sudden, they (the people in the house) heard this cry for "help" in a voice that would make any mother sick to her stomach from the sound of terror coming from the mouth of a child.....the voice was cryin' "HEEEELP! HEEEELP ME! HEEEELP...SOMEBOOOODY HEEEELP MEEE!". Several people take off running to the pig pen to find out how close "Gabbey" might be near death only to find him dangling from the top of the fence....his feet about 6" from the ground....he had used a bucket to climb up the fence, the bucket fell over, and he was hanging on for dear life not realizing he could almost touch the ground! Oh, and one more, and I THINK this was a Gabbey story (Mom can tell me if I'm wrong). One day...at about the same age, he was out catching baby chicks...and killing them! After several days of his Mom finding dead baby chicks, she finally caught him in action, and asked him what he thought he was doing??!! (he would pick up a baby chick and just squeeze them) and he looked at her and said, "me squeeze 'em til they shit!" ......I'm pretty sure he got his butt whooped over that! (yeah...Cory..the word is "whooped"!

The family tree and our lovely little apples

I checked my Family Tree software tonight and saw that I have 978 individuals listed and of that number 436 are direct decendants of Ransom Ladd. I have hard copy of about another 1200 names to be entered. Yep, I've got some work to do! I know I am missing quite a few names, dates, places etc especially from the younger generation. So, if ya'll don't mind please email to me at sarahwilliamson2005@yahoo.com your immediate family's information. I would also like to have your email, mailing address, phone number, bank account number (not really!) so that I can put together a complete mailing list.

What a Great Family!

OK, I have to admit that I've sort of become sort of a peeker/lurker...plurker? I've been reading a lot and not posting so much. We have the coolest family, and watching everyone laugh together and become closer is so amazing!

Dylan, welcome to the blog! You're profile is great--the answer to your question was soooo Laddlike! Just to let everyone know, Dylan is going to be doing a Powerpoint for the reunion. Let us know what you need Dylan!

Hey, where's Sarah? Haven't heard from her lately. And...Evona, if you're out there being a plurker, we want to hear from ya woman!

im still here

Hey there everybodee, I still haven't received any emails from anyone. If you are still having trouble please keep trying. Alot of times people use 200 instead of 2000 for my email address so double check your zeros. I keep in touch with Aint Aud and Aunt Shirley, so I know that my email address is still current. Cory I remnember meeting you once, so please keep trying. I am so looking forward to meeting all of you too. It sounds like we have a pretty large family too. That will be the hard part trying to remember everyones name, that dang sometimers is kicking in ya know. Anyway somebody write me soon. Your cuz, your sister, your friend Gail Shailee

Still looking for a picture of me AND the others...

you know who the "others" are!

Debbey emailed me a picture to use on the blog...and oddly enough, it looks just like me, however, I'm still searching for one that looks BETTER than me, but is still me. Hey....wait! Don't I have a sister who is a "professional photographer"? AND she has access to all kinds of photo magic? Hmmm....

ALSO...................
If you are a Ladd in any way, and you are reading this blog....PLEEEZE sign on and talk to us! We need you!

BLOG HOG

Sorry to be a blog hog.

Who can post or email a family tree?

Talented Family

I know that many of you must be musically talented. (Because you are part of the fabulous Ladd family, that is why I KNOW) Please share with us... who plays an instrument? Who sings? And, if you refuse to brag on yourself, please dish on other family members that you know have these talents.

PUTER HAS BEEN DOWN! YOU WANT STORIES?

Gosh! It took me a while to catch up with all the posts! My computer had been running so slow for the past few days that I haven't been on line. I THINK I got caught up tonight tho! I was so glad to see some new names too!

Mandi-you want stories? Well, let me tell you, Dad, (Grandpa Jim) and Uncle Pete were the story tellers of the family. Sure wish I had written some of them down. It's too late for me to think "funny" tonight, but I do have something I want to say about Gabbey.

Event Planning

Alrighty. It's time to start making some decisions. I think there is enough interest to go ahead and say this thing should happen in 2008 and get as many to show as possible.

We should start with selecting a date for this reunion. Labor Day weekend makes sense. So, how about if we pick August 31st which is Sunday. That will give Saturday for travel to Jonesboro and Monday for folks to travel back home. A one day reunion should be easy to plan and if this thing takes off it can grow from there.

We should probably have a planning committee to identify all of the details and then assign different folks to cover them. Ideally some members of the planning committee should be near Jonesboro to check out various venues. The planning committee should have a central person to funnel information to. I'd like to nominate Jodi since she kick started this thing. I'd like nominate Sandi to be the official mouthpiece, Ladd megaphone, bull roar, or any other title she so desires.

I'll volunteer to be a committee member and can do things such as create a flyer , do emailings, etc.

Okay, lets get started! Who is going to volunteer next?

Sarah

Water and Rocks

Ok, Sandi, you asked for it ... now you wont be able to shut me up!! here are some photos of the water garden that I built at our home ......

I had a terrible time with erosion on one side of our house.... so I found a way to work with it instead of against it.

Embedding images and stuff like that

If you would like to embed photographs inside your post you need to do the following. First you create a new post. It creates a text box that gives you tools at the top so that you can change the FONT, FONT COLOR, SPELL CHEK, imbed images , and even video clips. When you click on the button to upload an image, it gives you the option to place it in various configurations, such as left, right, center, etc. That's all there is to it!

Like here's Cory playing air guitar

PS. don't forget to click on the box that you "accept" the terms and conditions or it will cancel your uploaded image. Okay, gotta run!

Putt, putt, putt........

WE GOT "PEEKERS"

WE GOT SOME "PEEKERS" Okay you all....I have it on good trustful authority that we have kin folks "peeking" and "reading" but not posting! Can you believe it!!!??? Now for you "peekers" (I know there is a real cool cyber word for "peekers" but I just can't thunk of it)...any way, if you don't know how to get on board, sign up for a google account, it's really easy to do that. Just your name and password, and then email Jodi for the details of getting on. I'd tell ya, but I'm not even sure how I made it! Jodi's email is:

j.hutchison@suddenlink.net

Join the fun! Oh yeah, and if you want to make yourself look real popular, keep looking at your own profile....it counts how many people looked at it and every time YOU go into it, it adds another one! Cool, huh? I go into mine about 10 times a day just so I'll have more hits than my sister Debbey! (just don't tell her that).

I'd love to hear some child hood stories and I'm sure everyone else would too. If you can't think of any.....make 'em up. Your siblings will say it ain't so, but the rest of us won't know WHO to believe. In fact, I think at the reunion we should have an award for the best story! If anyone has some idea's for "festivities" please send them out. We got to get this show on the road. Also, we need to nominate someone as SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE or as I like to call it, the main common tater. So send in your thoughts!

Oh, one last thing....who is good at designing? We need to all order T-shirts to commemorate the day! At one of the Ladd/Dunivan reunions last year they sold shirts and coffee mugs. They also had an auction, but that probably wouldn't work since so many have to travel and besides, who needs the money??? LOL! (actually the Ladd/Dunivan reunion donated proceeds for a scholarship). Some how I don't see us doing that.

If labor day sounds good to everyone I will call and get a group rate at the Holiday Inn. I think that would be the best place to stay. Course anyone that wants too is more than welcome to stay at my place--but just remember if you do, you're on your own. You just have to walk in and make yourself at home because I'm past the age of caring if I'm a good hostess. I'll tell you where the blankets are, but you will have to search for your own food and get it yourself. There's usually lots of "kids" here, so be prepared for noise. If you can handle that you are more than welcome! ...sincerely!Sandi

Missing Uncle Pete

I am so sorry to hear about Uncle Pete. I was however able to meet him once back in 1985ish. He was in Midland where I lived and Sarah brought them to my work place. Happy people very happy. I am so soory for your grief, your all in my thoughts and prayers.
Well ya see Sandi, its like this......... the teeth: I took some of them there Bubba Teeth and whittled em down a bit, put some white shoe polish on em and viola` and the hair..... its been falling out somethin fierce .......... so when I get the back ones cut,,,, I save em and super glue em to the front. It works pretty good till i get some of the glue on me fingers and rub my eyes.... then I walk around looking like a one eyed pirate till it wears off. Arghhhhhh !!!

I am having a great time reading all the posts. It's great to see that the "southern" Ladds are every bit as crazy as the "northern" ones!.

Keep posting!

For all of those that knew and loved Uncle Pete, I am so sorry for your loss. From what I have gleaned, he was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. You are in my prayers and in my heart.

Sarah has spoken to be about Uncle Pete, but sadly, I never met, spoke or corresponded with him. That is my loss.

As for the upcoming reunion, I will make every effort to attend. It would be shameful to let another Ladd pass without sharing their wit, their passion and their stories of life and livin.

You will be in my heart and in my prayers.

Love,
Orrin

Uncle Pete

I'm sure by now, most of you know that Uncle Pete passed away last night. He was just the sweetest man I've ever encountered, and as sad as I am that he is gone...I know that the world is a much better place because he lived.

my people?!

hi everyone, cathi just shared this wonderful idea of jodi's (thanks jodi!) with me and i'm SO excited! i'm (the redheaded) corey ... dene josleyn's granddaughter and don's daughter. my mom's sue and my brother's bryan. i married a german merchant marine, named robert, almost 5 years ago, who i've finally sorta got settled on land with me in socal. i've been lucky enough to see cathi, donna, my aunt shirl and aunt aud more often than everyone else (but not enough) so bring on the cousin's reunion!

Feeling my way around

Well, being technologically challenged, I am feeling my way around this blogspot.... its all new to me! It is great reading what you all have to say, I'll join in as I can. Nothing much exciting to add for now, we have a foot of fresh snow, it was 2 below when I left for work this morning, but supposed to be 50 by the weekend, dont know whether to get the ice fishing shanty out, or the row boat.

bye for now, take care all

Happy New Year to all!

Happy New Year to everybody. I am really looking forward to getting to know everyone; learning about long lost brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, inlaws and especially the outlaws.

Gabbey (Harold Gaylon) is my father. My (immediate) Ladd sisters are Sarah Williamson and Gail Shailee Sequin, we have another brother John Guest and a sister Brenda Guest ... and we have a bunch of Ladd brothers and sisters scattered about that I hope to get to know again.

It's my first time here, I will try to peek in often.
