Event Planning

Alrighty. It's time to start making some decisions. I think there is enough interest to go ahead and say this thing should happen in 2008 and get as many to show as possible.

We should start with selecting a date for this reunion. Labor Day weekend makes sense. So, how about if we pick August 31st which is Sunday. That will give Saturday for travel to Jonesboro and Monday for folks to travel back home. A one day reunion should be easy to plan and if this thing takes off it can grow from there.

We should probably have a planning committee to identify all of the details and then assign different folks to cover them. Ideally some members of the planning committee should be near Jonesboro to check out various venues. The planning committee should have a central person to funnel information to. I'd like to nominate Jodi since she kick started this thing. I'd like nominate Sandi to be the official mouthpiece, Ladd megaphone, bull roar, or any other title she so desires.

I'll volunteer to be a committee member and can do things such as create a flyer , do emailings, etc.

Okay, lets get started! Who is going to volunteer next?

I'm not really sure that one day is enough for everyone to visit. I'd like to hear from more of you as to what you would like to do.

I'd be happy with one or two days.

Sandi doesn't want to be the bull horn. She wants to float thru the crowd making fun of the bull horn! But I'll be the bossy cousin if you want me too.

Here's a thought...howz bout a spokespersonn for each gang? Someone that you can count on to stand up and make fun of their family....and kind of explain who's who and who did what. ??

Jodi and Vicki are good detail people and can get things together here. (they're bossy too...heck, ever met a Ladd that wasn't???)Any way, Mandi-(Vicki's sister) can get started on designing some T shirts, and I'm pretty sure "someone" might have connections to get those done at a decent price.

I'm not cool any more, and they are....so they can get things going on here. I'm sure there are enough of us that live in Arkansas to take care of most things here. So don't worry about a pot luck dinner! LOL! We've got kid cousins all over here that all have special talents and would be happy to get their heads together.

I don't care how many days we meet, as long as we meet. I thought Labor day was a done deal? hmmmm, my bad. (....that's my "cool" talk, and that's the extent of it). Any way, Sarah, howz about you get together all the addresses you can and drive people crazy about sharing the ones they have? I'd like to see a power point of everyone's family pictures. But I don't know anything about putting those things together...I think Jodi, Vicki, Mandi and Debbey do....and I'm sure some of the yankee cousins do! (yeah...I said yankee!!)

I would like for you all to post the date/dates that will work best for you, ...and what kind of dish you'll be bringing. (kidding...just kidding).

I should have noted before that Vicki is working on venues--that's pretty much what she does for a living so she knows all the hotels, etc. in the area. When she gets a final list together I'll post the details. I've been scooping up any dead possum I see in the middle of the road and putting it in the freezer, so we should have plenty to eat by the time everyone gets here.

With regard to Sandi as the official mouthpiece...was that ever even in question?

My biggest concern right now is making sure NOBODY gets left out. Even the folks who don't want to join in should at least know they are invited and they can be "peekers" if that keeps us all in touch. So Sarah, if you woulnd't mind rounding up contact info on the folks not showing up on the blog that would be great. I'll email a list of those I have so far.

We can begin to make specific plans when everyone has an invitation and a chance to weigh in.

Jodi

P. S. Don't we have the coolest family?

Okay, I'll start creating a master contact list and try to get commitments so we know how many to plan on.

Poor little possums......

Jodi, I told you I don't want possum so close to Thanksgiving! You know Sandi does have the biggest mouth. Can any other family members fit their fist in their mouth?I wonder if it's a family trait or just something Sandi can do?

My son Dylan is pretty good at Power Point & anything else computer related. He would be THRILLED to help! And he's bossy as hell so he'll fit right in.

And, for the record -- I may have been born & raised in Big Ten country, but I've been a SWC / SEC guy my whole life! Even the Chicago baseball team I like is on the South Side!!! So Yankee THAT! :P

Cory....get that boy of yours working on some idea's and tell us what we need to send him! That would be great to have the "younger" generation join in. Can he add the music and all that? I thought it would be cool if we had a program running the whole time, even if it keeps repeating. Ask him what he thinks.

Oh, and the "yankee" comment was just a ploy to see how many of you were still true to heart hillbilly!

Mandi, can you come up with a couple of designs? I know you can do something cool. (is it still "cool" to say "cool"?) I just can't keep up!
Peace & Love (LOL!)

My main question to all of you - I don't know if you want to stay in Northeast Arkansas (i.e. Jonesboro) or if you are up for going to a different part of the state. I'm asking EVERYONE - Arkansans included, because if we go somewhere else, you'd be gone from home for a night or two. Also, what kind of things does everyone want to do? Do we want a place we can just hang out together the entire time or do you want "activities". My thoughts are... do you want to go to Jonesboro, closer to "home" or maybe get houses/cabins/condos on a lake? The idea with the lake/resort for me, was that we could get a couple of boats to hang out on, do our own cooking..or go out to eat. As far as "activities" I just mean close enough to civilization so if anyone wants to golf, go to a spa, go to the movies, shop, etc. that it is available. And...we can do both of those. Please let me know what you think of when you think "Ladd Reunion". And, FYI - airports are Memphis - 1 1/2 hours from Jonesboro or Little Rock - 2 1/2 hours from Jonesboro but could be closer if we go somewhere like Hot Springs. I live in Little Rock and can help with pick up from airport. Mom (Debbey) lives in Memphis, so I'm sure she can help with shuttle from there. Might want to remember that when looking at dates for arrival/departure if you are flying. After I get some ideas from everyone, and we get some estimated head counts, I can send some web links for properties and we can vote on it.

So, Dylan, what are your thoughts on the power point? I can definitely have an LCD projector and laptop wherever we are. You want pictures? Short videos? Money so you can create a DVD for everyone? What are your thoughts?

Good thoughts Vicki! How much trouble would it be (like it matters) for you to do Package Deal #1, #2, & #3??? Give us an idea of lodging prices and pontoons and stuff like that. Then there is always the option of just relaxing at the cafe and talking and singing and watching video's, looking at old pictures, etc. Probably sounds boring to your age group, huh? What ever the majority wants to do is fine with me, but you have to remember, I'm 53 and never had a sun tan, and probably never will. so the lake thing is okay, but I'll be lookin like one of the Muslem women to protect my soft ivory skin! (what ever, right!??)

i hope it's still cool to say cool because if not ... im in trouble :D was there ideas or daydreams on a shirt design that I should try to make or work from? i have an important question for cory or vicki or anybody that can help... how do i make my powerpoints usable on dvd players?are they automatically or is there a certain thing i need to do? i have one prepared for a friend and just thought i would ask. its nothing fancy-smancy... just photos on powerpoint...some music.. i would email cory but i don't know how. so please... someone help a girl out? :D

That sounds great... to have the reunion at a big park... water, volleyball, softball, whatever... heck I wont be able to walk for a week when I get home! But I'll love every minute of it. As for me, I will plan on taking at least an extra day, that way with one day of driving on each end, we can spend two days witcha

dont be asking me too much about shirt designs... being the ole fart that I am, with no imaginatin abilities at all, I'd end up with a silly old tree with LADD letters hangin like fruit ... we would have to vote (after the reunion) as to who the rotten apple was..........

wow I havent been to a reunion in sooooo long..... back in the old days, we used to go to the reunions just to meet chicks!

see, I'm no yankee!

Sorry I havn't joined yet... I can make a powerpoint type thing that would continuisly play throughout the entire thing and make it full of videos, pictures, and music. It would be perfect if the place had a LCD Projector and laptop. I am excited for this.
